These vinyl place mats from Walmart are affordable at about only $2 each. It is great for open ended art that you would like a little visual interest to. I have used this when painting with children as young as one years old and it's easy. Just use masking tape to make sure it is not sliding all over the surface you are painting. I prefer to use the stretch canvases because they are light weight for hanging from medium command hooks. The placemats are made out of vinyl so it is really easy clean and use over and over.
