Parent Hacks for Laundry Baskets

Updated: Feb 7, 2021

I love laundry baskets for much more than just doing laundry, and at the end of the day, you no longer need them for these parenting hacks, they can be returned to be used as actual laundry baskets. I will continue to add to this blog as I am able to document the uses, so keep posted.

Tape An Aqua Mat To A Flipped Over Laundry Basket

The aqua play mats are so much fun for infants! It's great on the floor but if they are standing and trying to walk while holding onto things, this idea is perfect. It is such a small window that it seems a waste to invest into anything to crazy, but a laundry basket is always good to have around the house for one reason or another. Laundry included. I just used masking tape to attach it and let her do the rest.

Use In The Bathtub

My cousin gave me this tip that she saw somewhere on the internet, so I did not come up with this one myself; but this pictures of Abby utilizing this parent hack are adorable so I had to share.

If by some chance, you haven't heard of this hack, let me tell you why I like it.

-It protects your child from bonking their head on the faucet. (Although you have to be careful of them leaning their weight on the basket, and it flipping. But seeing as you are sitting there with them, that should be easy done.)

-It keep all their toys in their space. It can add an element of danger when your child is trying to track down one of their toys that escaped them. So preventing the toys from wandering off with the laundry basket is a safer option in my opinion.

A Car

I have always loved putting a little one in a laundry basket and pulling them around the carpet. I did this years ago with my nephew and I have fond memories of my grandma saying "I don't know who the kid is! You or him..." 18 years later, I still find it to be fun.

For my daughter, I put a box with a toy steering wheel on top so that she could pretend she was driving as we glided along the carpet. She loved it!

Alphabet Sorting

I like to use my laundry basket to run some ribbon and then have the children sort out clothes pin with the alphabet on them. I found these really cute alphabet clothes pins, but you don't have to be that fancy. Just get run of the mill generic clothes pin and write letters of the alphabet on them using permanent marker.
